request granted

since i had a request to explain stroller yoga i shall! stroller yoga is taught by sunshine family yoga. our teacher "sunshine" or sheryl is a trained pre/postnatal, baby, tot and young child yoga instructor. she was once worked for parents as teachers and is also a doula. she is also someone you can really lean upon because she is a wonderful listener. i'm sure i left something out since she is a person of many trades! she goes off of the program called itsy bitsy yoga and it is amazing.

it is currently free since she is switching from genesis to the ymca. she normally teaches in a studio and without strollers but with the nice weather and the transition from the genesis the to y, she made it into an outdoors event.

we meet at a different location every wednesday at 9:30am. we are meeting next wednesday at the nature center again since we had crappy weather this time. we sing songs and do moves that the kids of all ages really enjoy! we help the little ones move while the bigger ones enjoy being a big yogi [boy]or yogini [girl] by doing the moves like the adults. plus we do squats and lunges to songs and it forces a good but fun workout for us as well. we start off by doing some stretches. then we usually walk and sing the ants go marching. then we end with mat time and meditation. it usually ends around eleven.

here are some pics from last wednesdays and sedgwick county park:
stretching, sorry you get to stare at my butt

warrior pose during our stretching
ants go marching with squats
more ants go marchingtree pose halfway through our walk
up, up and away... half moon stretch with song
downward dog by a little yogi
meditation

i know when she finally gets settled into the y she will be teaching on the both the west and east side.

i'll admit that i didn't have initial bond with my chicka. i had a c-section followed by surgery from my scar tissue ureter. then went i got into the room chicka had rapid breathing and i just had to sit there and listen to her cry because she had to get all the fluid out of her lungs. yoga really helped my confidence as a mom. for example, all the antibiotics i took while chicka was in my womb [because of my kidney infections] stripped my poor chicka's intestines of all the good bacteria leaving her with SUPER bad gas. by doing the moves to my chicka that sheryl taught me i felt like i could conquer anything. she teaches that YOU are the best mom for your child. makes me tear up every time she says it too.

i was kinda a skeptic but now i'm a full out yoga freak!

chicka chicka boom boom, i'll write again real soon

  1. That sounds awesome! If she is still holding classes mid-July, let me know! I would love to check it out, but due to my current Parents As Teachers work schedule, along with some insane upcoming travel, my Wednesday mornings are booked until then. Keep it up, though. Sounds very fulfilling!
